Inserting the equivalent reactance parameter of the thyristor controlled series compensator into the Jacobian matrix as control variable
Abstract
Thyristor-controlled series compensator (TCSC) is one of the FACTS devices that changes the equivalent impedance value of the transmission line in energy transmission systems by series connecting to the line. As the equivalent reactance parameter value changing in TCSC changes the equivalent admittance value of the transmission line that the TCSC is connected to, the bus admittance matrix structure of the system is changed. In this paper, a new approach that includes the TCSC equivalent reactance parameter to the Jacobian matrix as control variable and prevents the need of rebuilding the bus admittance matrix in power flow studies is proposed. Thus, the speed increase of the power flow algorithm convergence when the TCSC equivalent reactance parameter is changed is intended. For this aim, new power equations for the buses that the TCSC is connected to and new equations for Jacobian matrix component calculation are obtained. This study is the first one that includes the TCSC equivalent reactance parameter to the Jacobian matrix as control variable in the literature. The proposed approach is applied on IEEE 57 bus test system. The obtained results have proved that the approach is accurate and fast convergence for the power flow algorithm has been achieved.
