Symposium 15: Other conditions and diabetes Rheumatologic alterations in diabetes The wide spectrum of musculoskeletal affections related to diabetes is diverse. We will now describe some of the most frequent rheumatologic manifestations. 1- Diabetic Queiroarthropathy, characterized by the loss of joint mobility, especially on the hands, in a painless way but with the loss of functionality. It has a tendency to affect the metacarpophalangeal and the proximal interphalangeal, and, less frequently, the elbow, wrist and knee. The prevalence varies between an 8% and a 50%, more closely related with type 1 diabetes and a poor glycemic control. The diagnosis is mainly clinical, with a positive “prayer sign” maneuver. Treatment includes: NSAIDs, Physio-Kinesiotherapy, and, eventually, decompression surgery.
