Trend of Developing Aqueous Liquid and Gel Electrolytes for Sustainable, Safe, and High-Performance Li-Ion Batteries

Abstract

Highlights This Review encompasses the role, requirement, and development direction of water-based electrolytes for sustainable, safe, high-performance Li-ion batteries. Water-based electrolytes (aqueous liquid and gel electrolytes) and their mechanisms are comprehensively summarized to widen the electrolyte electrochemical stability window and battery operating voltage and to achieve long-term operation stability.
