The incumbent government took charge in 2013 and inherited severe energy, especially power, crisis. This power crisis was the product of decades long inadequate policies of the previous governments. With the dawn of twenty first century, Pakistan started witnessing dark periods with intense electricity outages. While the current government has introduced National Power Policy 2013 by setting certain goals to curb the ongoing crises; a review of the government's progress against its targets ranging from various aspects of power generation to transmission and distribution revels that long-term and sustainable planning is subject to neglect. The government, however, has made some progress in achieving the short-term goals. A lasting impact is possible only through integrated planning and improved governance. Generation side is getting more focus than transmission and distribution side, which is not a sustainable approach.
