"With his Classics in mind" : la Méditerranée frostienne ou l’appel des muses antiques

Abstract

This article intends to show the network of influences, borrowings and intertextual references in Robert Frost’s long poems–their rewriting of ancient models, forms and myths and their Americanization of the pastoral genre. Our exploration of the Frostian fascination for the ancient Mediterranean world will be based on the poet’s 1961 trip to Israel and Greece and his reappropriation of such a legacy.
