Temporalités (Jun 2021)
Un temps « difficile à encaisser »
Abstract
The time of asylum seekers is made up of waiting. This time is constrained by the procedure. Over the long term, boredom predominates. But one must also submit to the tempo imposed by the institutions in charge of the asylum, which differs in France and in Germany and removes the pure uniformity of the lived-time.The main objective of this paper is to show the materialization of this long time of the procedure on the daily life of seekers, from the most passive sides to the possibilities to face the imposition of temporal norms by finding a time for oneself. Nevertheless, I will claim that even if seekers are as inventive as can be in protesting against what the institution imposes on them, the permanent switching between the “lifeworld” and institutions makes their temporal experience particularly hard to face. The experience of waiting is not always overcome.
