The spinning mills in India test 2%–10% of bales in a lot for fiber attributes before processing of the fibers, which pose problems in terms of production and quality of the end product. The weak link is the non-availability of fiber property data for each bale, which restricts mills to purchase suitable bales for producing the best quality yarns. A study was undertaken to find out the effect of segregation of bales based on fineness of cotton on the yarns produced thereof. The cotton from different regions of the country was processed considering fiber attributes at each level of processing.
