The purpose of analyzing the operational concepts of the American military is to understand and learn how the U.S. military assumes and conducts war and hope to attract enough attention and conduct deeper operational theory research and practice. First, the exact definition of the operations concept is summarized according to the U.S. joint publications and related literature. The three foundations of U.S. operational theory–strategies, concepts, and doctrines–are expounded. Subsequently, their relationships are discussed. In other words, concepts serve as a bridge between strategies and doctrines, which are essential for improving current strategies and doctrines or developing new ones. Finally, we studied the developments and relevance of several operations concepts of the U.S. forces, such as "air land battle", "air sea battle", "network centric operation", "distributed lethality concept", "multi-domain operation", "all-domain operation" and "joint operations concepts". It also puts forward some shallow insights on combat concept research, strategy and tactics research and equipment development based on "concept", "system" and "future".
