The article aims to analyze the challenges of teacher training with regard to issues related to entry and retention in degree courses, as well as future performance in the teaching career. This is the result of research carried out based on statistical and documentary data, which were interpreted based on the foundations of historical-dialectical materialism. The results indicate that the majority of students are female workers, single, between 25 and 33 years old, with a family income of 1.5 to 3 minimum wages and there is a significant number who do not intend to work in the area of education. There are many determinants that lead to not working in the teaching career, after finishing the degree, or even abandoning it early. In this article, we will discuss the conditions of initial training and teacher development as fundamental elements.
