The geopolitics of the Donbass region
Abstract
Introduction: The Donbass region has been of great importance in Russian and Ukrainian politics, which consists of the two republics (Luhansk and Donetsk). The region is located in southeastern Ukraine and is characterized by its high economic resources. In 1991, the region separated from Russia and joined Ukraine, and is inhabited by various minorities, including Russians. And Ukrainian and Russian Bella, and these groups belong to the Slavic race, but they differ in language only and are similar in culture and race, despite the fact that the region is under Ukrainian sovereignty, but most of its population has loyalty to the Russian Federation, so the year 2014 was a year for the start of a conflict between the population of Ukraine, of whom they wish Joining NATO and the last opposition, the Russian presence within the region is a natural matter for Russia while maintaining that Ukraine does not join NATO, which poses a threat to Russian national security.
