PERVERTED AND/OR INEFFICIENT DRUG TREATMENT

Objectives. The main purpose of the article was to create literature review regarding the phenomenon of occurrence and the preventing measures of perverted and/or inefficient drug treatment. Material and methods. A number of scientific and didactic-scientific publications have been studied, which provide information regarding the moment that contribute to the irrationality of drug prescription and a large number of complications of the drug treatment and it’ s inefficiency. International publications via online platforms such as Google Scholar and PubMed have been used. The keywords used for the search were: self-medication, counterfeit, drug interactions, side effects. Results. There have been found 31 publications that reveal information on rationally tactics of drug use and the opportunities to prevent the side effects and complications related to medication administration, with the increasing of efficacy and pharmacotherapeutic harmlessness in surgical field. Conclusions. The prevention of ineffective drug treatment should be based on several important recommendations, including non-prescription of the drug in the absence of evident indications and not to abuse drug applications for Over-the-Counter (OTC) drugs on their own. It is very important to identify other drugs, phytotherapeutic medicines and food supplements, including those used in self-medication, which the patient has already administered, in order to avoid the simultaneous prescription of several drugs, whose interaction is unavoidable. All patients, especially the elderly ones, should be informed on the correct selection and administration of medicines, following the instructions and warning them of the counterfeit drugs that may appear in the distribution system, and inform them about the side effects caused by the administration of these drugs.
