Abstract: Teaching nowadays is a challenging task that requires well-motivated students. With this in mind, implementing various kinds of mass media in the classroom should be used in education. Numerous studies have explored the impact of motivation on language learning and have identified creative strategies to enhance students' attention. However, very few of them have incorporated news videos in their classrooms. In recent years, students have become increasingly reliant on mass media. This creates a need to find more effective ways and techniques to teach English and improve the quality of education in Algerian universities. Therefore, this study investigates the use of BBC and CNN news coverage YouTube videos for first-year University level. It explores their relevance and impact as an advanced method of increasing motivation. The analysis has relied on the quantitative method for data collection. A questionnaire was submitted to 52 first-year students from the Department of English as a sample size for the study. The results reveal that using the news in the classroom to teach English to University students has raised their curiosity to learn and explore the language. Additionally, the teacher’s style and topic selection have enhanced the students’ enthusiasm and raised their awareness of the significance of watching the news for English learning success. The present research article contributes at expanding the existing body of knowledge by highlighting the impact of news videos use in a foreign language classroom on students’ motivation and improving the teaching and learning process.
