La colonisation de l’Amazonie face au développement durable : l’exemple du barrage de Belo Monte

Abstract

The debate on a new dinamic of development of the Amazon had been reopened by an investment plan of the brazilian federalgovernment named Avança Brasil. But the strength of the mobilization against it, using the sustanaible development as an argument and which may be suported by the new gouvernment, can transform this project. Based on the detailed study of one of the most important projcet of the Avança Brazil Program, the Belo Monte dam, we show that the dynamics of the amazon exploitation are deepest to be stoped by a government change or by a dispute. But the dinamic changed: the project modifications and the plans which come with the dam show that sustanaible development is present as a possiblity of minimizing the impacts of the dam.
