Three centuries of Santiago de Cuba’s short story (1830-1918): main aesthetics, texts and authors
Abstract
This research article contributes to the study of Santiago de Cuba’s short story from the colonial period until today. This is a zone pretermitted within the Cuban literary studies, generally focused, by the literary historiography, from a havanocentrist perspective. The content analysis and the historiographic approach allows to elucidate authors, texts and main aesthetics that distinguish the process of origin, development and consolidation of this literary genre in three periods: the colonial, neo-colonial/republican and revolutionary. The basics that characterize this writing practice in the region can establish counterpoints with the ideo-aesthetics experiences of the genre in Cuba and Latin America.
