Myanmar Clinical Practice Guideline for Osteoporosis
Abstract
Osteoporosis is a disease in which the density and quality of bone are reduced, leading to weakness of the skeleton and increased risk of fracture, particularly of the spine, wrist and hip. Generally, osteoporosis in Myanmar is still a neglected disease entity in the national priority health problems. Due to the low level of awareness on osteoporosis and its consequent fragility fractures, limited availability and accessibility of standard diagnostic tools and medications, osteoporosis is mainly under diagnosed and under-treated in daily clinical practice. It is not mentioned in the prioritized diseases in the national health plan.
