The project «Youth and History in the Mercosur» collects information about History teaching and politic culture from students and teachers of High Schools. This information is obtained through surveys composed of 40 questions that show how Young people, between 15 and 17 years old, understand time and construct their national identities. This paper analyzes only the features of questions number 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 for students. The object is, first, to try to know and discuss the importance of history and the past for the living present and future for the students. Second, discover what forms of history knowledge presentation the students prefer and which ones seem more scientific to them. Third, to watch what really happened in their History classes in relation to teaching strategies and sources, texts, and didactics materials in general. The comparative perspective helps to establish similarities and differences between Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, and Chile. One of the similitudes refers to the place that the traditional forms of history teaching still have.
