Nurses with Addictive Substance Abuse and Nursing Management Approach: A Literature Review

Abstract

The presence of drugs that cause addiction in health institutions and easy access to these drugs create a risk factor among nurses for utilization of substance. These issues which are often ignored and not much talked about in health institutions, are pretty important for nursing because of health of the patients, the trust of society and the negative impact on the image of nursing. To early identify employees who use substances, to direct for treatment, to supply the adaptation of employees after the treatment, to determine the policies of institution about this topic are the responsibility of the nursing administrator. In this review, the risks about utilization of substances among nurses, management intervention againts to these employees, providing support to return to work for employees were discussed based on the literature.
