NANOTECHNOLOGIES CHANGE THE WORLD

Abstract

Nanotechnologies enable one to find solutions for most stressing problems of civilization – depletion of natural resources, environmental pollution, global warming, improvement of medical treatment, mitigation of the consequences of natural disasters. This work presents some aspects of the history of nanotechnologies, starting from use in the Middle Ages of stained glass in churches and cathedrals and finishing with modern multifunctional systems. Along with this, some concrete achievements are described such as development of nanometer-scale electronic devices, connecting photonic systems to nanoelectronic ones, implementation of nanomaterials in biomedicine etc.
