Birth-related brachial plexus palsy (Erb-Duchenne palsy) 1 year after diagnosis. Clinical case

Abstract

Birth-Related Brachial Plexus Palsy (BRBPP) results in flaccid paralysis of the arms, grouped according to the Narakas Classification. Multiple factors are related, the most important being shoulder dystocia. It occurs not only as a result of plexus elongation but can occur in the absence of traction or another factor. For this reason, “obstetric paralysis” should be considered a more global term over BRBPP. Its incidence is 0.4-3/1000 newborns. The evolution of a patient 12 months after diagnosis of BRBPP is described in detail.
