MICROGEOGRAPHY AS PART OF THE GEOGRAPHY TEACHING STRATEGY
Abstract
The current trend is, despite the continual globalization of society, increasing in-terest in the immediate surroundings. At the time of the information society, the local (so-called microgeographic) knowledge have strategic importance, becau-se it is basis for planning of the regional development of the specific territories, respectively the regional policy. By the term „microgeography“ we mean com-plex regional geography on a local level, usually a municipality. The aim of the paper is to provide an innovative view of microgeography as a part of the geography teaching strategy at primary, secondary and higher education. In detail, we focus on identifying the strategy of teaching microgeography at the Department of Geography and Regional Development of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra. We present the curriculum analysis, examples of specific learning materials, and activities targeted at developing of critical and creative thinking of geography students.
