The article examines the production of the staging of union culture from the 1968s to the early 2000s through three case studies based on machinist conflicts: Grève à Ugine en 1968, directed by Robert Amprimo, amateur filmmaker and activist at the CGT; Jossermoz, usine occupée (1978), documentary film by Pierre Todeschini; corpus of reports broadcast in the television news of FR3 Auvergne (1989 and 2003). It reproduces the processes of co-construction of moving images between shop stewards, workers and filmmakers with different status. It deciphers the protesting union language –verbal, gestural and sound– to grasp the relationship between the intentions and strategies of the union delegates and the audiovisual devices implemented. But do the moving images reflect trade union work in its entirety?
