In this paper, we propose the display and analysis of the different periods of modernization that have reached Campinas, municipality of São Paulo. From the socio-spatial formation category, we seek to understand how the genesis of the city happened and how its urban structuring process, at different stages, was linked to the succession of the business cycles. The continuity of archaic production forms within the historical periods is the condition of the national socio-economic formation. In this formation process, the materialization of the structure and of the productive forces that are mediated by the state led to periods of relative stability, however, the accumulation of contradictions will be the condition for the occurrence of ruptures that inaugurate new periods.
