FACTORS INFLUENCING THE SUBJECTS’ LEGAL STATUS OF THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION

Background. Amendments to the Constitution of the Russian Federation also touched upon issues of Federal structure. They influenced the formation of the legal status of the subjects of the Russian Federation. This is largely brought the problem of the study. The article aims to identify the factors that affect the consolidation of the legal status of the subjects of the Russian Federation. Materials and methods. Implementation of the research tasks was achieved on the basis of analysis of the Constitution, the constitutional law of the Russian Federation, charters and constitutions of subjects of the Russian Federation. The methodological potential includes the following research methods: comparative legal, logical, institutional, formal legal, historical. Results. The article considers the types of Federal States, determines the place of Russia in this typology, and the influence of the features of Russian federalism on the legal status of the subjects of the Russian Federation. Conclusions. Based on the conducted research, it is concluded that the main factors that influence the determination of the constitutional and legal status of the subjects of the Russian Federation are the principles of Russian federalism and legal norms concerning Russian federalism enshrined in the Constitution of the Russian Federation, the classification of the Russian Federation as a constitutional multinational federations of a centralized type, an asymmetric model of Russian federalism with its adjustment by current legislation towards symmetry.
