About priorities of the European Union at the United Nations
Abstract
The author analyzed the priorities of the European Union at the United Nations in the context of the current session of the United Nations General Assembly. Special attention has been devoted to the key priorities of the EU in the sphere of international security and crisis prevention and also to the engagement of the EU with the UN on global challenges. The author underlines the commitment of the EU to the principles and norms of the UN Charter in development of the strategic partnership with the UN on the key problems of the global agenda of joint actions. The article focuses also on the strategic partnership of the EC and the UN in the sphere of peacekeeping operations in the «hot spots» in different regions of the world and crisis management. The author stresses support of the EU to the latest initiatives of the UN Secretary General on the plan of actions in peacekeeping. The author considers cooperation of the EU with the UN in peaceful mediation and the union‘s emphasis on modernization of mediation in the context of new challenges to the international security as an important factor. The article shows growing activity of the EU on this subject in different regions of the world. The article touches upon new approaches of the EU to «safeguarding humanitarian space» during introduction of sanctions and realization of operations against terrorism.
