Mis huacos, an unpublished book by Martín García Mérou: diplomacy and archaeology, looting and literature
Abstract
This note presents Mis huacos, an unpublished book by Martín García Mérou preserved in the library of the Museo de la Plata. It is a manuscript in which the author comments on the collection of archaeological pieces that he acquired –participating himself in the excursions in which these pieces were extracted or looted– when he was a diplomat in Peru (1891-1894). The material also sheds light on García Mérou's intellectual profile, on his operations as an art and literature critic. It is therefore valuable material for future research on the author.
