Breastfeeding is recognized as the best feeding for a newborn. The objective of our study is to evaluate the mother´s knowledge and practices of newborns feeding. This is a cross-sectional, carried out between 1st of January 2019 and 31th of December 2019 including 1000 mothers-newborn couples who consulted pediatric emergencies during the study period. A pre-established questionnaire was used to collect the necessary data. Regarding the practices during the first day of postpartum, the rate of breastfeeding was 78%, the first feeding was given in the first three hours in 45% of cases. The reasons given by the mothers for the choice of other foods are diverse. Only 35% of the parturients were sensitized and have benefited from prenatal information on breastfeeding. This survey shows that there are many inadequacies in the knowledge and behavior of mothers.
