CULTURE CODES IN ENGLISH AND DARGIN PAROEMIAS ABOUT FOOLISHNESS
Abstract
Purpose. The article presents the contrastive analysis of the culture codes in English and Dargin paroemias about foolishness, reveals common and culture specific characteristics of the paroemias. Methodology. The research was held by using contrastive, interpretative and descriptive methods. Results. The results of the research show that in English and Dargin paroemias both universal and culture specific codes are represented. Somatic, zoomorphic, phytomorphic, gastronomic, spiritual and subject codes are represented in the paroemias under study. Zoomorphic code is widely used in English while in Dargin paroemias gastronomic and subject codes are more frequent. Natural/landscape code is presented only in Dargin paroemias. Practical implications. The results of the study can be applied in the research of universal and culture-specific culture codes and concepts in different languages.
