Continents manuscrits (Oct 2024)
Genèse, héritage et actualité de Senghor
Abstract
Léopold Sédar Senghor (1906-2001) is one of the most widely studied French-writing authors. An international research group, attached to the Université Cheikh Anta Diop in Dakar and the Institut des textes et manuscrits modernes (CNRS/ENS) in Paris, was founded in October 2022 to give new impetus to Senghorian studies. The aim is to use the archives as a starting point for new research using new documents: poetic drafts, researchers’ notebooks and private correspondence. But building up and consulting Senghor’s archives does not mean erecting a paper mausoleum to the glory of the poet-president: the researcher consults the sources to interrogate them with a critical eye. The articles presented in this introduction are mainly based on papers given at the study day Léopold Sédar Senghor: genèse d’une œuvre (June 27, 2024, BnF-Richelieu, Paris); a series of interviews and reviews complete the dossier.
