This article puts forward the hypothesis that feminism has, from its origins, been a movement for peace. Accordingly, it first refers to the contributions made by women to peace throughout history, from both a theoretical and practical point of view. In this regard, peace is understood not only as the absence of war (negative peace), but also as the achievement of a society which better satisfies the basic needs of people, security and equality (positive peace). In addition to this, the text gives an account of the various actions undertaken by the United Nations in order to achieve greater equality between men and women and, consequently, a higher participation of women in peace processes.
