Palm heart constitutes a major non-timber forest product within the pro poor development strategy in Acre State. The 1990s it witnessed a boom of native palm processing, that proved to be unsustainable and processing units migrated to northern Bolivia. This article aims to rescue the impacts of this process, and subsequent initiatives of peach palm cultivation, originated by public and private, which, however, experienced difficulties to access the market. Given the scarce bibliography on the topic, we seek to contribute to the debate of this productive chain in Acre as an input to the debate on strategies to support the marketing of non-wood forest products, essential to the state’s policy of providing value to the standing forest.
