Myasthenia Gravis in a Patient with HIV
Abstract
A 25 year old female presented with facial weaknessand symmetrical proximal weakness of the extremitieswhich was aggravated on exertion. Clinical examinationand laboratory investigations were diagnostic ofmyasthenia gravis. Moreover, the patient tested positivefor HIV. Management with anticholinesterase medicationshowed marked improvement in overall strength andperformance of activities of daily living (ADL). Thepossibility of simultaneous affection with myastheniagravis should be borne in mind when HIV patients presentwith weakness.
