The Snake Charmer(ess) intermedia dialogue between Henri Rousseau's Painting and Sylvia Plath's poetry

Abstract

The paper examines possible interpretations of poetry and poetic image analysing the dialogue between the arts of literature and painting. The paper studies the poet Sylvia Plath's referencing Henri Rousseau's painting The Snake Charmer in her poem 'Snakecharmer'. What is analysed is the creative superstructure based upon nonliterary reference, as well as the visual elements attained through two diverse artistic media.
