Ukrainian domestic icon. The development of tradition

Abstract

The paper describes the formation process of the domestic icon – one of the most important religious and ritual objects of the Ukrainian peasantry. Its roots date back to the period of Kyivan Rus’, and its prosperity – to the nineteenth century. The author draws attention to the evolution of tradition and various forms of manifestations throughout Ukraine.
