Refractory epilepsy: treatment by immunoglobulin

Objective: To evaluate the therapeutic effect of the use ofimmunoglobulin in patients with refractory epilepsy. Methods:Twenty patients with refractory epilepsy were treated withimmunoglobulin therapy. Results: Five patients became free fromseizures. Thirteen patients improved 50-80% and two patients hadno reduction in number of seizures. Conclusions: All patientsbenefited significantly and cognitive and motor performanceimprovements were quite clear. We considered immunoglobulinas a valuable alternative to treat refractory epilepsy, even thoughit is an expensive treatment.
