Abstract This longitudinal teaching skills program for generalist residents is to be conducted by residency faculty. Modules include: (1) leading teams/role modeling, (2) orienting learners, (3) giving feedback, (4) bedside teaching, (5) teaching procedures, (6) group teaching/inpatient work rounds, (7) teaching charting, and (8) giving mini-lectures. During each session, interdisciplinary groups of residents discuss teaching skills and actively practice the skills in pairs or groups of three. Each resident teaches standardized learners (portrayed by classmates) for approximately 10 minutes per session using specific teaching cases, and then receives feedback using checklists based on the Stanford Faculty Development Program. The program can be completed in about 15 hours, primarily during 1-hour conferences.
