Écrire l’histoire des abbés du Mont Saint-Michel1. Les auteurs du De abbatibus

Abstract

This research into the De abbatibus hujus loci rubrica abreviata, a chronicle of the abbots of Mont Saint-Michel, has two objectives. The first (this paper) is to identify the authors and the writing periods of this text. The second (forthcoming paper) is to study the working method of one of the most famous Anglo-Norman chroniclers of the twelfth century: the monk of Bec (1128-1154) and abbot of Mont Saint-Michel (1154-1186) Robert of Torigni. This study will also update the abbots of Mont Saint-Michel chronology from the 10th to the 12th centuries.
