THE SOURCES INFLUENCED OSMAN TÜRKAY

Abstract

Osman Türkay, wrote his works being influenced by world mythologies, as well as the classic Turkish poets like Mevlana, Yunus Emre, and contemporary Turkish and English poets. As it is known, the poetry of Osman Türkay is divided into two stages. In the first stage, he wrote works under the influence of Turkish poets like Yahya Kemal Beyatlı and Ahmet Haşim in the symbolist manner. In the second stage of Osman Türkay poetry, he was under the influence of well-known poets like Nazım Hikmet and indirectly Mayakovski, Orhan Veli, Melih Cevdet Anday. His work of “Song of mutineers” bears some features of the poem of Nazım Hikmet “Song of Sun Drinkers”. In addition, Türkay himself stressed his learning the technique of poem writing from Thomas Elliot, Dylan Thomas and employing varying poetic forms. In some of his poems one can notice the influence of “The Waste Land” by Thomas Elliot.
