Rhinoplasty
Abstract
Background: The nose occupies the central and most important part of the face for the surgeons performing esthetic surgery. In our days, the way of performing a surgery to the nose can not be limited to only one surgical technique. Objectives: To characterize the nose surgery made through endonasal surgery and open surgery. Methods: A descriptive study carried out in the Universitary Hospital ¨Dr. Gustavo Aldereguia Lima¨ of Cienfuegos, that included 77 patients submitted to surgery in the period between 2000 and 2005, in which the surgical techniques of endonasal and open surgery were practiced. Both techniques are described and illustrated. The following variables were studied: type of nose, used technique, type of graft. Results: The type of ethnical nose with more incidence was the Caucasian with 49 patients. 47 endonasal approaches and 30 open rhinoplastias were carried out. The type of graft more used was that of osteocartilaginous gibbus.
