First detection of gravitational waves

Abstract

We present a brief description on the first detection of gravitational waves. We take the opportunity to comment on fundamental aspects of general relativity, including some historical remarks. The basic operation of the gravitational wave detectors is presented, along with the main characteristics of its construction. We present a preliminary study of the signal detected on September of 2015 by the LIGO observatories of gravitational waves.
