The process of teaching biology and ecology is inextricably linked with the process of upbringing. The principle of upbringing learning is the basis for teaching any academic subject, including biology and ecology. Future subject teachers should be ready to implement the upbringing function through the taught subject. Methods of teaching biology and ecology are the key disciplines in the professional training of future teachers of these profiles. This article describes the structure of the upbringing process, expressed in the relationship of its main elements (purpose, content, methods and means, result); reveals the issues of patriotic, moral, aesthetic, environmental education, sexual,, as well as the formation of a holistic worldview among pupils and the value of a healthy lifestyle. These elements of upbringing are studied by biology students in classes on the methodology of teaching biology and the methodology of teaching ecology at a pedagogical university.
