The most problematic area between anthropology and Law, in a historical sense, is the study of Roman civilization. In this paper some of the problems for a cross-talk between lawyers and anthropologists are indicated as well as the methods and levels of analysis are discussed. Some basic ideas for the consolidation of a Legal Anthropology of Roma are proposed: this dialogue must be transversal, historical, critical and non dogmatic. The paper finishes with some of the current trends in legal anthropology in which these basic ideas can be applied.
