The electrical grid of regional power systems primarily uses double-circuit 220 kV overhead power lines to function. This paper provides information on the problem of ice formation on overhead ground wires of 220 kV power lines, including a brief overview of papers dedicated to this problem. The problem of ice formation on overhead ground wires exists in local areas located near water bodies. This paper proposes a preventive heating method based on induced current to prevent ice formation on an overhead ground wire. This method uses the idea of increasing active losses in an overhead ground wire of a 220 kV power line due to creating a circuit for flowing induced current without switching the power line off. The paper describes a mathematical model and a methodology for calculating EMF induced in an overhead ground wire of a 220 kV power line by magnetic fields of the phase currents flowing in this power line. The materials presented in the paper can be used to practically implement the deicing method in areas with intense ice formation on overhead ground wire of high voltage double-circuit overhead lines.
