Educational activities of schools for children undergoing hospital treatment
Abstract
Illness and hospitalization lead to the loss of school days and educational deprivation of hospitalized children. The obligation of the school is to enable students to acquire knowledge, skills and habits in accordance with the prescribed curriculum. Hospital treatment helps children stay connected with regular educational and social activities. The aim of this paper is to look at and compare ways of educational work with children in hospital care in Serbia as well as in the surrounding countries. Educational work with sick children in hospitals is specific as it requires great responsibility, kindness and humanity, as well as certain necessary adjustments to the children`s health condition. The task of hospital schools is to make teaching content as informative and creative as possible. The existence of school in a hospital has a therapeutic function regardless of the length of hospitalization. At any time, the teacher must have responsibility for his work due to the specific working conditions. Teaching these children provides joy, relief, and a temporary forgetting about the disease. In this process, attention should be paid to schools for the so-called special categories of students, including schools for with children on hospital treatment.
