This article aims to exemplify the culture of Portuguese vocational schools in the 1950s, using the case of the Industrial and Commercial School Alfredo da Silva (EICAS) in the town of Barreiro, Portugal. We base research on the theoretical framework of school culture / school cultures. Methodologically this study is a historical documentary case study: the EICAS. We used documents collected in the archive of the School, the Libraries of the General Secretariat of the Portuguese Ministry of Education and the City Hall of Barreiro, as well as interviews. We employed the operational matrix for the study of school culture (MOECE), to characterize the culture of EICAS. Thus, we detect distinct brands and fundamental cultural traits of this School, regarding the categories: purpose and mission; Norms, values , and beliefs; social networks; Rituals, traditions, and ceremonies; Stories and stories of lives and identities. EICAS was a vocational training school serving the needs of employers and the aspirations of young people in the region. Keywords: School Cultures. Vocational Teaching. History of Education.
