Submandibular dermoid cyst resembling a plunging ranula

Abstract

A case of a submandibular dermoid cyst misdiagnosed ranula will be discussed. Sclerotherapy and sublingual gland excision were performed, but, the cyst persisted. A biopsy of the internal surface epithelium was needed for definitive diagnosis, and total cyst and duct excision was performed as the appropriate treatment.
