Geminates’ demarcating function from Latin to Italian
Abstract
This article aims to show that from a diachronic or synchronic point of view, in Romance languages, especially Italian, geminates, complementary phenomenon of the intensity stress, are involved in the construction of the word with a demarcating function. They separate the components of the word when it is necessary for the proper conduct of the construction of meaning.
