This text was delivered on June 27, 2019 at “The U.S. Catholic Church: _Laudato Si_’, Creation Care, and the Climate Crisis.” The event was held at Creighton University in Omaha, NE and opened the inaugural gathering of “_Laudato Si_’ in the United States: A Conference Series on Our Common Home” co-sponsored by Creighton and Catholic Climate Covenant. In his remarks, Creighton University President, Rev. Daniel S. Hendrickson, SJ, outlines historical commitments by the Catholic Church and Society of Jesus to care for our common home. He also highlights initiatives of Creighton to incorporate mission-based sustainability into the University’s physical operations, academic and research initiatives, programmatic undertakings, social projection, and _The Creighton 150 Strategic Plan: Lighting the Way_ guiding the University to its 2028 sesquicentennial anniversary. Father Hendrickson concludes by thanking Catholic Climate Covenant for its conference series collaboration.
