Espacio público y proyecto urbano: el eje Tamanduateí en Santo André (São Paulo, Brasil)
Abstract
This paper studies the production of urban public spaces based on the case study of Eixo Tamanduateí, proposed by the municipality of Santo André (São Paulo, Brazil). Taking into account the privatization of spaces in today's cities, the implementation of urban projects through the association of public and private sectors has been widely used as one of the main strategies for town planning, applying the rhetoric that recognizes the value of public spaces. Based on historical references, this article provides a critical analysis of public space and political projects, identifying the relation between the" social inclusion" policy of Santo Andre's local government from 1997 to 2000 and the Eixo Tamanduateí Project, as well as the results obtained with the use of the urban tool known as" operações urbanas" (urban operations).
