SPATIOTEMPORAL CHANGE OF LANDUSE IN THE TEKİRDAĞ AND ITS SURROUNDINGS

Abstract

This study attempts to explain the spatial and temporal changes of landuse in Tekirdağ province and its immediate vicinity. This study seeks answers to the questions “what kinds of changes have taken place in landuse in this region for more than a century (1900-2015)” and “what kinds of influences have these changes had?”. The research methods of history and geography were used. Old and new thematic maps and satellite images prepared by various organizations and institutions were employed. All these materials were used in association with historical research records and the current data. Hence, landuse maps were prepared for the region for the period between 1900 and 2015. Afterwards, the determined landuse classes were analyzed in terms of post classification change detection method, and the course of temporal differentiation was revealed. It was found out that considerable changes have occurred in landuse in the last 115-years period. However, it was also seen that such changes in landuse in the last century are far from being sustainable.
