This article aims at showing the vital role of poetry in Estonia today. Piera Mattei focuses in particular on the works of four contemporary poets and introduces their main features. She discusses Maarja Kangro’s ironic and pessimistic art, the crucial role of the sea images in Doris Kareva’s selection of poems, Kalju Kruusa’s rough, colloquial language and Hasso Krull’s fascination for oriental settings. Mattei also presents a selection of their poems that she translated for Italian readers.
